Servicing a board role

Are you a collector of board roles? Being a Non-Executive Director on a board is like buying a luxury car. You might be able to afford the purchase, but can you afford the servicing? You might like the title and be willing to commit to board meetings, but can you commit to subcommittee meetings, planning days, strategy days, ambassador duties and events? If you catch yourself saying things like “I don’t have enough time”, “I am too busy” or “my role is voluntary”……it’s time for a reality check. We should only commit to roles we can properly service and be 100% accountable for. Being on a board is more than simply turning up to board meetings. Be the best version of yourself.
